April 11 & 12, 2022- Great Guana Cay
April 11 & 12, 2022
I had to put on pants this morning. It is 70F but it feels like fall with the fluffy clouds and the coolness.

It is always fascinating to watch the sun rise behind the clouds. The rays cascade down. Just beautiful.
9:30am- We arrived in Little Guana and we covered 10 kn miles. Unfortunately, Sun Spirit couldn’t get their anchor down so Steve went on the dinghy to see if he can assist.
12:00pm- Steve came back from Sun Spirit and was happy to report they got it fixed. It needed soldering at the plug. The connecting wire was actually rotted away. When he came back, we started making water.
2:45pm- We finished making water. Our front tank was almost empty. The water here is crystal clear.
Went for a short walk in town and then walked up to Nippers for a drink. It was nice to see it was rebuilt
5:00pm.- Sue and Gunter treated us to dinner at Grabber’s in repayment for Steve helping them to fix the anchor. Of course I benefited also.

It was nice to see the sunset again without any obstructions. It got really cool once the sun went down.

We both out a cover on our legs while watching a couple of series in the stern of the boat.
8:00am- They have a ferry boat which transports either employees to or from work. You can also take a ferry to different islands at a reasonable price.
We spoke to a house owner who was painting his roof. He said lot of being did not have insurance so the banks took them over. He said his house during Dorian got damaged by debris that flew underneath his porch, punctured a hole in the ceiling and ended up in his living room.

7:30pm- Sunset hid behind clouds. Every time it goes down the wind picks up.
6:15- Rise and shine. Time to make coffee for the Captain.
6:45am-- Leaving Hopetown and going to Great Guana Cay. High tides were at 3:30am and we had to make sure they were somewhat up since we would hit bottom on low tide going out the channel.

Goodbye Hopetown
It is always fascinating to watch the sun rise behind the clouds. The rays cascade down. Just beautiful.
7:30am- We are going 4.5 knots with just our head sail. Nice to save on fuel and we are in no rush since our destiny is near.
8:15am- It is ironic that as we are sailing we are listening to the cruisers net although the reception wasn’t very good.
It is such a beautiful sail and it was the first time I practiced my ukulele while we were on the way.
8:30am- We actually went to a speed of a speed of 6.6kn just with our head sail.
9:00am- We just passed Scotland Cay and now coming up to Little Guana Cay. You can see from a distance many homes which have been rebuilt or are being rebuilt.
12:00pm- Steve came back from Sun Spirit and was happy to report they got it fixed. It needed soldering at the plug. The connecting wire was actually rotted away. When he came back, we started making water.
FYI
Guana Cay is one of several small cays in the boomerang-shaped barrier to the mainland of Abaco, Bahamas. At approximately 6 miles long and 1100 yards at its widest point
3:00pm- Steve washed underneath the boat. The challenge is staying under water long enough to scrub while holding on to a line tied along side the boat to keep him close enough.
We then walked to the marina but the restaurant was closed.

11:00- I notice how the sky is lit up from the 1/2 moon. Beautiful.

7:15am- Woke up to the boat rocking. Did a 30 minute pilate class which I downloaded from the net. I get extra balance work when the boat is rocking. Cloudy morning and 72F.
8:30am- Bread is rising while we were having our breakfast.
10:30am- Went for a nice long walk on the island. There are so many houses for sale here.
It was garbage pickup day.
We walked about 4 km.
Beautiful starfish along the beach.
12:00pm- Came back to the boat for lunch.
I spent all afternoon either painting, playing my guitar or played a few games of solitaire while Steve read
3:30pm- Bread just came out of the oven. Guess who is getting a piece??
We see more and more boats showing up at this anchorage.
7:00pm- Dinner tonight is barbecued chicken thighs, mash potatoes, broccoli and a mixed green salad.
7:30pm- Sunset hid behind clouds. Every time it goes down the wind picks up.
