April 1-3, 2022- Man O War

7:30am - Enjoyed our morning ritual of coffee and breakfast.
8:15am- Listened to the Abacos Cruiser’s net. Looks like the weather is going to improve.
9:00am-  Anchors are raised and we are leaving Marsh Harbour  and heading to Man O War. Margi and Chuck from SV VTwin reserved moorings for Sun Spirit and our GaYa.  The moorings cost $20/ngt ot $100/wewk. We are very excited to see them. We met them the first year when we were bringing GaYa  down the ICW from Canada which was 6 years ago.
As we were motoring across the channel, I made pizza dough in preparation for tonight. .
9:45am- As we are motoring, Steve mentioned it was blowing 20 knots.
We only travelled 5 miles across before we were greeted by Chuck and Margi. They guided us to our moorings.
After helping Sue and Gunter with their mooring,(the setup was a little bit more complicated)  they came over for a visit. It was so nice to catch up.

They will be joining us for dinner later.
In the meantime, Steve made water while I made pizza for later.

2:30- We went for a dinghy ride in Man O War to see the changes after Dorian. They also got hit hard. We disposed  our garbage and then went for a walk in town. Much has changed however a lot of rebuilding has begun.
3:00pm-  Steve and I both took a nice hot shower.
5:00pm-  Sue, Gunter, Margi and Chuck came over for dinner. We all snacked on great hors d’oeuvres and pizza. It was a nice evening.
8:30pm- Later, as we were watching a series, we could hear rumbling in the distance. We then saw the sky light up. We definitely need rain since our boat has been covered with salt crystal from sailing this week. A good rain would wash that off.
11:00pm-  It still hasn’t rained however we can hear someone getting hammered in the distance. I went to bed after I played solitaire.
12:00am-  It is raining now and hopefully it rains enough to wash the salt from the boat.

April 2, 2022
7:30am- Having our coffee and breakfast while the sun is gazing in my eyes. Already feels like a hot one. It rained enough last night to wash some of the crusty salt off the boat.
9:00am-  We wanted to revisit a place where we have known the owners. We dinghied all the way to the property and noticed a huge barge up the beach. There were all kind of people working on the huge place. Steve picked up a coconut from the property and a guy came up to us. We told them we met the owners, Sue and John, 3 years ago. He said they sold the place after Dorian and there is now new owners.
Noticing Steve had a coconut in his hand, he asked if we wanted fresher one. Of course, we never refused. He took a long plank from the ground and brought down 4 coconuts for us. He even skinned them for us. We didn’t bring any money ( it is always nice to tip) and told him we would be back. His name was Delva.
10:00am- We came back to the boat to get money and then went back to the public dock.  We decided we needed exercise to we did a 6 km walk to give him $10. He was so appreciative. On the way back, we noticed so much repair to the homes. We talked to a local who said it took 3 years to finally finish rebuilding their home. It takes 9 months to get windows.
1:00pm- Came back to the boat to make water. Also my bread was overdue for kneading. Steve read during that time and I practised my ukulele.
2:30pm- I decided to make coconut oatmeal cookies with the coconut which we had.
I also cooked some of the shredded coconut and made coconut chips. Margi told me her friend did that and it was delicious. I agree after tasting it.
3:30pm-  Fresh bread came out of the oven and of course we sampled it.
The houses at this end of the harbor have no road not even a path to them.
Anything like building materials and household goods have to be delivered by barge.
Each house has a dock and a small boat like a center console to get back and forth to the settlement. Unfortunately, today this barge ran aground and had to turn around.
6:00pm- Tonight dinner is sausages, fried noodles and broccoli followed by a coffee and one of my delicious coconut cookies.
7:30pm- Because it was cloudy, we did not see sunset. Watched a couple of series and then I played solitaire and finally won while Steve read before going to bed.

April 3, 2022
7:00am-  The sun rose behind clouds this morning. It rained last night and it is cloudy this morning.

7:30am- As we were sipping on our coffee, we noticed a turtle swimming and bopping up and down in back of our boat. We noticed several of them yesterday while we dinghied in the bay.

Thanks 9:30am- Went in town and walked 4 km the opposite direction from yesterday. We saw many house with only the foundation teaming.
The school was rebuilt

There has been a lot of work done but still a lot more to do.
Man O War has a long, strong ancestral heritage everything is closed on Sunday and do not sell liquor on this island.

11:15am-  Steve started the engine to heat some water for us to take a hot shower later.
After lunch, the wind picked up and I decided to take a photo of the dark clouds coming in. As I walked behind the boat, I noticed a long thin string coming off our boat and dinghy motor. I brought this to Steve’s attention.  The string was wrapped around the dinghy propellor and he had to use his knife to cut it off. I tied the string  which was connected to the boat for Steve to follow it to the propellor. He will have to dive in the water after the rain passes or tomorrow morning.  Who knows where we picked that up from and how it hooked up to both propellor.
1:00pm- I played a couple of games of solitaire while Steve read.

1:45pm-  Steve decided to dive in the water and check out the prop. The rope was tangled on the prop but not as much as the dinghy.

While he was diving he noticed an old mast at the bottom. There are many boats on the mooring which have broken mast from Dorian.

After Steve finished off he took a shower and I took a hot shower afterwards. He then made water.  I practised my guitar.
4:30pm- We were invited by Chuck and Margi.  We all ate munchies and dessert. It was a pleasant visit.

7:30pm- Went to drop off our garbage before heading back to the boat.
Watched series before bedtime.
We plan on going to Hopetown tomorrow.
