March 9-11, 2022- Staniel Cay

March 9, 2022
Happy Birthday to my wonderful daughters Natalie and Nicole.

6:30am- Woke up to the sounds of boaters zooming by several times with locals going to work from Black Point to probably Staniel Cay. Their taxi is a boat.
8:00am- Enjoyed a healthy breakfast of oatmeal and fresh fruit since we were able to get bananas and blueberries yesterday. Still haven’t found yogurt.
9:30am- Anchor is up and we are leaving Black Sound heading  to Staniel Cay. It isn’t far so we are going to take our time.

Sun Spirit and iiWii are following us. iiWii has a draft close to 7 ft and they have never chartered in these waters.
We will be sailing with  only the main sail and take our time. It is such a great sail going 5.5nm with only one sail.

10:15pm- This super yacht named Fifty is just passing us and also going to Staniel Cay. It has a steel keel and aluminium structure built in Italy.

11:00am- Sun Spirit separated and will be anchoring at the pig beach area. iiWii is observing how we are entering the channel to the marina while we  communicate our depth as we are going along.
11:30am-  We are safely at a mooring right across from the marina. So calm here. We only covered 7.5 miles
12:00pm- After lunch, we went into town to pay for our mooring which is $40/night. At the marinas, kids were swimming with sharks. We then went for groceries. Not much for $75. Too funny how everything was $8. We managed to get plain yogurt $8.50, raisin bread $8, chips $8. Crazy Bahamian prices. Steve dropped off a propane tank to get filled for $20 at Isle Inn. He has to pick it up at 4:30pm.
1:30pm-  Sue and Gunter dropped by on their way back from town. They said the grocery store will be fully provisioned tomorrow morning.
3:30pm- As I was basket weaving and Steve was reading, Fred and Sharon stopped by for a couple of minutes to thank us for helping them give directions on how to get into the marina. They are now prepared for when they go to the marina on Saturday. It can get tricky getting into this marina.  Right now they are anchoring at the pig beach.
4:15pm- Went to pick up the filled propane tank.
5:00pm. We FaceTimed our daughters to wish them both a happy birthday. It was nice talking to the grand children.
6:00pm- We were surprised to see a super yacht named ‘The Wolf” arrive during low tides in the marina. Unfortunately, they ran aground on a rocky shoal. They had help with a couple of boaters who tried to get them off but did not succeed. They will have to wait until high tide which is at midnight.
Hamburger and chips was dinner tonight.
7:30pm-  We watched a movie
9:15- Seeing the tides are going up, The Wolf is trying to see if they can budge, but no luck.
9:30pm- The Wolf is finally free however attempting to go in the marina, it ran aground again but for only 15 minutes. He finally is at the dock. Good thing because he had a loud bow thruster which echoed across the marina.
10:00am- Nice and calm for sleeping tonight.

March 10, 2022
Another calm morning. Being close to the marina, you have boats zooming in and out. Amazing how fast they go. Very entertaining. We already heard the first plane take off at 6:45am from the airport which is right behind the marina.
7:00am- We enjoyed having our yogurt and fresh fruit this morning after not having it for awhile.
8:00am- we went to finish off our groceries and forked out another $58.00.
Afterwards Steve went to get gas and diesel as I scrubbed and reorganized inside the boat. When he returned, he made water and scrubbed the back end of the boat.  In doing so, he dropped the hammer in the water and had to dive for it.  He also tightened all the hinges on the lazerats.
After everything was cleaned, we relaxed outside the boat.
You may be wondering why we are stocking up and cleaning and reorganizing the boat because I have not mentioned it prior.
Our daughter, Nicky, Brent , Lyla and Parker will be arriving tomorrow and staying with us for 10 days. It will be crowded, no doubt, however we always make the best of it. We are getting so excited.
2:00pm-  I went for  a swim since it was so humid then took a cold shower.
4:00pm- Went for hors d’oeuvres on Sue and Gunter’s boat. Funny how some of these boat have slides. The water was so calm.
5:45pm- Just as we were getting back to the boat, dark clouds started forming but no rain here. We could see a small rainbow in the distance.
Dinner tonight was clam chowder soup and bread.
Watched a movie before going to bed.

March 11, 2022 - We have company
Exciting day today. Nicky, Brent, Lyla and Parker will be flying in today to stay with us for 10 days.
That might be why I was up at 5:45am and decided to start making my bread.
8:00am-  Steve and I enjoyed roasting raisin bread with the generator making power this morning.
10:00am-  I did last minute cleanup and shuffling things around in preparation for the kids. I even did brownies for tonight.
11:00am-  I cut Steve’s hair and then we both swam around the boat and then took a cold shower.
12:00pm- Steve made water so we can have full tanks before leaving tomorrow.
Went swimming and took a shower after a late lunch.

3:00pm- The kids have boarded the plane and are on their way.  They stop in Andros to clear Customs and then they boarded another plane to land in Staniel Cay. SCYC owns Makers Air which is what our children are flying. Once landed, they boarded a large golf cart to the Marina.  What an adventure for them.
5:15pm-  I could see the plane flying in  from our boat. Steve went to the marina to pick them up.
6:00am- First, Nicky came with the kids.

Then Brent came with all the luggage.

It was so nice to see them all

Steve picked up 2 pizzas at the yacht club marina restaurant and had hors d’oeuvres for dinner. The kids had fun blowing the conch at sunset.
For dessert, I brought out a brownie cake and celebrated Steve, Lyla and Nicky birthday.

Later, Brent and Steve made new lures in preparation for tomorrow’s fishing.
We all played card afterwards.

Lyla and Parker settled in quite well.
10:00am-  We were all in bed except for Steve and Brent who stayed up a while.
Brent decided to sleep outside in the stern so I gave him a blanket and pillow.
