March 2-6, 2022- Little Bay

6:30am- Steve had coffee ready as we enjoyed sitting in back of the boat.
Lot of boaters are on the move this morning. We laughed this morning when we heard a woman on the VHF said that her husband is determined to catch a fish. In fact, if needed he will through the kid over if he has to. So we are not the only ones having no luck.
For the first time this year, we tried out our inverter to make power for our toaster. It was great having toasted English muffins.
We will be trying out a new anchorage south of Black Point in Little Bay.
Steve figured out a way to set up his iPad, which has Aquamap, on top of his Navionics system. That way we can cross reference with both as we sail.

8:15am- Anchors are up and off we go leaving Little Farmers Cay. It is only about an hour away to our destination , so we only put up our jib sail and we are still going 5 knots. Another beautiful day sailing.
Steve is going to try and catch a fish again. 🤞
10:00am-  Arrived at Little Cay and unfortunately no fish.  We only covered 7.3nm but it was still a great sail.
10:45am-  We decided to take our dinghies and walk around Black Point which wasn’t far.

We went by a house which looks like a castle.  Hurricane shutters closed her up.

Beside the house on the beach, there was a wreck washed up.

We talked to some locals who where weaving baskets.

As we went by the police station, we noticed a jail beside it. The police officer gave us a tour of  it and even locked Steve up. They do not use the prison anymore. There was two prison cells and he said it was used mostly for drunks needing to sleep it off at night. He said there isn’t any crime because it is such a small community where everyone knows or is related to one another.
Love the kids uniforms where they even have matching socks. . 11:30am-  Had lunch at Emerald Sunset restaurant on the water.

1:30am-  We came back at the boat and decided to move and anchor closer to chore before the winds picked up.
Steve decided to clean the bottom of our boat.

2:00pm- I decided to swim to shore from the boat. As I was swimming, I found a sand dollar in 5 ft of water. The boat was about 1/4 mile from the beach. It was such a nice swim. I took a nice hot shower when I returned and did basket weaving while Steve read all afternoon.

5:15pm- We met Gunter and Sue on the beach to have a drink and watch the sunset.

We watched a few series before Steve went to head and I stayed up to play my ukulele until 10:30pm.
The water is so calm.

March 3, 2022
7:00am-  Steve had coffee made when I got up. We will be staying at this anchorage for a couple more days since it is very protected and beautiful. There is a front coming through starting tomorrow and we are protected from North and Easterly winds here.
8:15am- Relaxed and had our morning breakfast. Steve was figuring out how to update his Ray marine since he was notified that he does not have the most updated    He decided not to update until we are on the States just in case something goes wrong in the download.
reorganized and cleaned the boat before doing some basket weaving.
After lunch, both Steve and I swam from the boat to the beach. Water is so nice. On our way back, we saw a stingray along with other fish, swim under us.

2:00pm-  We decided to go fishing in our dinghy.  No luck.

Came back to the boat and made a cabbage roll casserole. Gunter and Sue came over for dinner.
We watched the sunset afterwards.

7:15pm- After Sue and Gunter left, we watched a couple of series before going to bed.

There are many boat which anchored around us today. Everyone wants to get settled before the front comes

We can hear the wind turbines spinning on one of the nearby boats. I can’t imagine how noisy it must be on their boat if we hear it.

March 4, 2022
7:00am-  Enjoying our coffee and breakfast as more boats are arriving to anchor before the front comes.
8:30am-  Painted while Steve read.

10:00am-  The wind picked up a bit so we decided to take a ride in the dinghy. Lots of rock formation and small caves along the water front.

When we returned, I did some basket weaving while Steve read. More and more boats are anchoring. You have to make sure no one anchors on top of your anchor.
After lunch, we dinghied  to Black Point to drop off our garbage  and went in the small convenient store. We bought a few things. It was a little rough going there but not bad coming back.
2:00pm- I practised my guitar while the wind blew through the boat. Winds speed so far is 18 to 22 mph.
Dinner tonight os pork chops, fried sweet potatoes and salad.
Wasn’t much of a sunset due to clouds coming in. Enjoyed a cup a coffee.
7:30pm-  As we were watching a couple of series, the winds picked up and it rained on and off. By the time we went to bed, the boat was rocking side to side.

March 5, 2022
7:00am- it was sure bumpy last night. Winds gusting up to 30 and it hasn’t changed much this morning. It was a good day to make banana bread, paint and basket weave. Glad I have so many hobbies. Steve loves reading.
2:00pm- After eating banana bread and the practising my ukulele, we decided to go to the beach for a walk. Surprisingly, we didn’t get wet. The wind is just howling and everyone is staying on their boats. We went for a nice long walk. First we walked south on a road built possibly for future development. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera. It led us to a gorgeous view of the ocean and then we walked south to a pink house. Looks like they are building it. In Bahamas there are a lot of projects started but sadly not completed.
Came back and swam off the boat. I had to really hang on to a rope since the waves and currents were strong. That was followed by a nice hot shower.
One nice thing is the sun was out and we relaxed on the stern of the boat.
5:30pm- Dinner tonight is chicken, rice & peas and salad.
7:00pn-  Finished watching a series before going to bed in a rocky boat. The wind is not letting up.

March 6, 2022 - Scary
6:00am- Woke up this morning to a loud blasting horn. When we looked out, we were right beside this cruisers. Poor Steve is hurrying to get his pants on while starting our engine. I took the wheel to steer the boat.
The anchor dragged about 1/4 mile. We couldn’t believe we dragged between boats and never hit them. Good thing it was light out and we managed the situation.  Steve said when he lifted the anchor, there was a big clump of clay stuck to the anchor. We were shocked that we dragged. The winds are suppose to go up to 40mph. It is continual winds and so tiring. iiwi is the boat on the right of this photo.

9:30am-  Steve went to see CV Tango who we almost hit this morning.
They told us it was CV iiwi who blasted the horn. So Steve went to thank them. They are Fred and Sharon Kirsch and they have an 80’ Northern Marine named iiwi.  Very nice couple who said they also had issues. The bridle broke off their anchor and had to put two new bigger ropes on it. Guess this wind is taking a toll on these anchors.
11:00am-  We heard on VHF radio from a boat which is anchored right beside us asking for antibiotics ciprofloxacin. Someone responded and we saw the wife getting into the dinghy to go get it from another boater. I saw her husband helping her to get in the dinghy. He was limping. When you are so isolated and in another country, you have to figure out ways to remedy situations. Can’t bring your doctor with you.
11:15pm- Steve made water while I did basket weaving.
12:30pm- Steve dove in the water to check the anchor. He said it was well buried.
I painted all afternoon while Steve studied the Navionics system. He set up the anchor warning   If we drag again, the alarm will set off. 3:00pm-  Fresh bread came out of the oven.
4:30om-  Went over Gunter and Sue’s for a wonderful meal.  It was nice to get off the boat for awhile.
6:30pm-  We went back to our boat before it started raining again and  before it got dark. Started watching a new series.
11:00pm- Before we went to bed, Steve placed the iPad beside him which has the Navionics system on it. This way he will be able to hear the alarm if the anchor starts dragging again. The winds just won’t let up.
