January 6, 2022- Rose Island

January 6,  2022

5:30am- Did some stretching exercise for my back before our 7am departure. Sun Spirit is following.

We do not pass too many vessels along the way but this was a beauty.

The sail went up and down throughout the journey

Steve is still trying to catch a Mahi.

11:00am-  Made the Captain a ham and cheese sandwich. We can see Nassau’s skyline in the  distance. We have had several sailing friends who visit the island however one got their dinghy and motor stolen and the other just recently their dinghy motor. We don’t plan on visiting anytime soon. Lots of huge vessels anchored. Saw a helicopter leaving one of them and going into Nassau.
2:00pm- Arrived at Rose Island to anchor for the night.  It wasn’t easy to anchor since there was a lot of current and we needed to stay clear from other anchored boats. While we were here, Steve fixed the auto helm and hopefully for good this time.
We were excited because we are getting free wifi from a small restaurant on the island.
3:00pm- It’s fiesta time before I start dinner.
Tomorrow we are going to Allan Cay.
4:00-  The Sun Spirit keeps giving me blog material. As the tides went down, they realize their vessel was touching bottom. Gunter couldn’t get his anchor up. He picked up Steve and they all tried to move her. Sue went in the water and saw she could actually stand beside the boat. So now they will have to wait a couple of hours for the tides to come up. Never a dull moment. It brings back memories of when we sailed together in Kingston, Ontario and we ran aground. Makes great stories.
I made macaroni and cheese from scratch tonight. It was so good.
7:00pm- Gunter picked up Steve to help them  move their boat in the dark now that the tides are going up. It is a different experience. I can see Steve and Gunter with their headlamps looking at the anchor and accessing the situation. The water is so clear.  I can hear Sun Spirits engine revving.
By 8:30pm, the Sun Spirit was moved and anchored in higher water levels. After Gunter dropped off Steve we watched a series before going to bed.
We leave for Allen Cay at 7am.
