January 18-20, 2022 - Staniel Cay

January 18, 2022
3:33am- Woke up where I could hear the current ruffling under the boat and at times the mooring ball hitting the side of the boat. With the full moon, tides are probably higher and therefore currents smaller. It is like being rocked in a cradle.

6:30am- Watched the full moon set as the sun rised.
So mystical.

Sun Spirit was on fire this morning.

8:00am- Leaving Cambridge and heading to Staniel Cay today.

10:00am- We went by some really big yatchs as we got closer to our destination. One couple was practising hitting golf balls at the stern of the boat. He waited until we passed to continue shooting. This 249 ft Yatch was called ‘Wheels’
10:30a- We settled in to our anchorage at Staniel Cay where the pigs reside on Major Cay on the beach. Tour boats bring visitors there. They are a pain only because they go at high speed in between the anchorages.
11:00om-  Steve didn’t waste any time to fill up our diesel and gas tanks. We also got rid of all our smelly garbage which we hadn’t been able to get rid of for a week now.
After lunch, we went to visit and feed the pigs. They are very aggressive if you bring them food. One almost bit off Gunter’s hand when he was trying to get out old lettuce from a plastic bag.
We then showed them where the Grotto was which was featured in the movie Thunderball. If it is calmer tomorrow, maybe they will go with us. We then went to see what kind of groceries there was. Steve was the only one who had a mask so he was the only one who was able to go see what they had. One store just received provisions that flew in from a plane and will not be opened until 5pm. We are definitely going to go since it will be a zoo to get fresh produce tomorrow when everyone else goes.

I practiced my guitar while Steve took in some rays.

5/09pm-  It was a race to make it to the grocery store before everyone else otherwise you would have to wait in long lines. They only allow 3 in a store with a mask.
I laid out in the table what $152US dollars bought us. Eggs were $13/dozen.

This is our bill.

Barbecued chicken , rice and salad for dinner tonight. Gorgeous sunset tonight.

Watching the harvest moon rise. Unbelievably beautiful.

January 19, 2022
6:30am- Did my daily exercise. It is cloudy out. Enjoyed our morning coffee and especially breakfast since we had fresh fruit. It is always interesting that when you don’t have something you like, you appreciate it that much more when you do
8:45am- Steve dropped off the laundry where they wash and dry for a fee.
$7 per load to wash, $5 to dry and $7 to fold. Meanwhile, I ran the engine to heat up the water in order to wash old rags and just hung them to dry.
10:00am- Steve made water until 12:00pm. He then went to help out Gunter with recoiling his generator.
I practiced my ukulele and then cleaned the boat until Steve came back at 2.00pm. Glad he got their generator going.
3:00pm-  We went to feed the pigs our vegetable cuttings before picking up our laundry. Cost us $40.  But so worth it. I always enjoy bringing back the laundry and it is nicely forded.
thanks 4:00pm-  Gunter and Sue took us  out to dinner at Staniel Cay Yatch  Marina Restaurant. They wanted to thank Steve for all the work he has done for them. The restaurant was empty until another couple from another boat came in. Six years ago, at the   restaurant we left the FPYC burgee hanging up along other burgees. Steve always looks for it.
Went for a brief walk afterwards and came back to our boat before dark.
Another beautiful moon rising.
Watched a movie before going to bed.

July 20, 2022
What a gorgeous calm morning. Enjoyed having our coffee while we hear people operating their windlass bringing up their anchor.  When I hear the chain noise, I always get excited for them because they are off to their next adventure.
9:30am- While we were making more water to fill up both 70 gallon tanks, I did my stretch and weight regime while Steve did his.
It sprinkles on and off. One minute the hatches get opened and then we have to shut them again. I always have a rule to shut all hatches if we leave the boat even if there is no clouds in the sky. The rain comes very quickly at times and I like a dry boat.
11:30am- We dinghied around the cays with Gunter and Sue. We ended up at a section where you could actually get off your dinghy and walk across to the Staniel Cay airport. People get dropped off and picked up there. There was a light breeze and we shut our engines and just drifted with the current. Good thing there was a breeze otherwise the heat would be unbearable.
Came back to the boat after 1pm to have lunch.
On our way back we noticed this vessel with all the toys. 2:00pm-  Gave Steve a much needed haircut. Interesting how fast your hair and nails grow.
3:00pm- Went to feed the pigs cantaloupe skins. They devoured it. We then went snorkelling at the grotto with Sue and Gunter. Easier access when you go during low tide. It is always so impressive.
Came back to shower and clean up before relaxing.
We sat on the bow of the boat to watch the sunset.

6:00pm- Dinner tonight is sausage, Broccoli and rice
Another gorgeous evening with the bright moon rising
Watched a movie before bedtime. The water was calm.
We plan on heading out to Black Sound in the morning.
