Here We Come GaYa

November 30 - December 3, 2021
Finally we will be spending time on the GaYa. 
In the meantime, we had to say goodbye to our children, mother, siblings and friends. That is what makes it bitter sweet. 

 Lots of prep work was done the past few weeks. We have all our canned goods, condiments, clothing all packed along with boat parts and things needed to stay on the boat for at least 5months. 
We had to make sure we are up to date on boat and travel insurance along with making sure all bills will be paid, security system updated, cars put away, empty the freezer and fridge, disconnect the washer, empty the dishwasher etc etc etc….
I was shocked to see what a good packer Steve was. He managed to fit everything in.

December 1, 2021
Left at 4am, crossed the Peace Bridge at 4:45am with no issues. They didn’t ask for our vaccination papers. 
5:00pm -Arrived in Savannah and stayed at Holiday Inn. Went out for dinner at Appleby. It was a long day for Steve since he drove. We are only 5 hours away from Ft Pierce where GaYa is waiting for us. 

December 2, 2021
7:30am- Back on the road again. We arrive at GaYa at 12:00pm. We unloaded the truck and started provisioning the boat.  Around 5pm, we went to Fort Pierce marina to have dinner. How ironic but from the balcony we were pleasantly surprise to see our friend Debra who happen to be staying on their boat. While she went to do groceries, we watched the spectacular Space X rocket launch. It was so cool. We visited with Debra and John afterwards. It was so nice to catch up.  Went back to the motel La Quinta around 7:30pm. Relax time. 

December 3, 2021
Back to the boat after breakfast. We got a lot accomplished today. Steve scrubbed the top deck, washed the side of the boat while I reorganized and cleaned the inside of the boat and later washed all the cushions. Before we left, we put up one of our sun shade curtains which we made. Looks darn good. 




We decided to go stay with our daughter, Nicky, for the weekend in Lakeworth and rest up before continuing to prepare the boat for launch on Monday. We had dinner at our Lakeworth friends. We always enjoy our visits. 



We bought our the meat we will be bringing on the boat to vacuum pack it and freeze it in Nicky’s freezer until we put the water in the water 

Spent as much time as possible with the grandkids. We built a Ginger bread house.

For lunch we went to Boté. Nicky made a wonderful pulled pork sandwiches for dinner.

April 13, 2022 7:15am-  Having our coffee and breakfast before leaving Great Guana.  8:30am- Anchors are going up and heading to Treasure Cay.  It is only 9.5 kn miles.  Winds are 15-16mph from from SE with 2 ft waves.  We are motor sailing  I am anxious to see Treasure Cay after Dorian. For some reason, we don’t hear much about the progression from there like the other Cays. I am particularly interested since my sister and her husband plus friends Kim and Don rented a cute condo years ago when we first started sailing. I am anxious to see if they rebuilt them. Also, they have one of the most beautiful beaches.  10:20am-  Arrived at Treasure Cay. Already we see a difference in what used to be and the entrance has changed.  We didn’t waste time to go walk the beach. The marina was totally gone. December 31, 2021 -Happy New Year.

December 31, 2021  Happy New Year to all my blogger readers.  4:00am- We are off to West End in the Bahamas. It is approximately 55 miles. It should take about 10 hours to get there depending on the wind.  This is a night photo of Gunter and Sue following us in the Gulf  stream as we were leaving West Palm.  My adrenaline goes up just as we are hoisting the anchor in the middle of the night. I get so excited when we leave in the dark with all the stars gazing down at us. It is also very disorienting and the depth perception  is deceiving. You have to take your time and have someone looking out at all times.   4:15am- Sun Spirit is staying close behind us since their running lights are not working. Something Gunter will have to check in the Bahamas.  7:00am- As we see light appearing, we noticed we do not see any land and that there is no cellular service. April 27 - May 2, 2022- Haul-out time

April 27 - 29, 2022 7:00am- Before our coffee, we said goodbye to Sue and Gunter as they leave for Jacksonville to haul out their boat there. It felt very surreal.  Now the work begins. First called our landscaper back home because apparently our lawn needs cutting.  After breakfast, we took an Uber to pick up our truck which was in storage. After removing the cover, we knew she needed a good wash.  We then went to Storage King USA to reserve a climate control storage unit. According to Riverside Marina, they will not be able to haul us out until next week.  April 27-29,  2022 Our new hats which we got at the Fort Pierce City Marina.  Things we have done so far to start putting the boat away  -Steve filled the boat up with fuel and emptied the Jerry can in order to store them in the storage bin  -We brought the kayak and a few fenders also to storage along with other things which we will no longer need such as life jackets.  -Steve thoroughly...
