GaYa on the move again 2021-2022

December 12, 2021 We are snuggled in Fort Pierce City Marina for a couple of days to prepare GaYa for her big adventure.  Went for a 4 km walk at 6am while Steve was sleeping. When I returned, we both went for a walk at Dunkin Donits    Came back to several pelicans beside our boat.  After breakfast, we put up the sails.  10:00am- Went to my daughter’s home since we still had a vehicle. We did a wash and took a shower. We also picked up all our frozen foods which they kindly stored  for us.  While we were there, I went on line (since the marina wifi is SO slow) to read up on Clixk2clear since reporting to the Bahamas Customs & Immigration is very different now. It is all on line.  We picked up a few things at Whole Foods and Costco. Now it is a matter of fitting it all in freezer/fridge.  4:30pm-  Back to the boat.  Surprisingly, we managed to fit all the food in the freezer and fridge. Boat In, Boat Out? December 9, 2021  What a day!  We were so excited since GaYa was going to get her bottom wet.  They hauled her in the water to find out the engine valve was seized. GaYa had to come back out for repair.  We also noticed one of the head valves was seized and needed be replaced.  Now to get parts. Steve managed to get the head valve while the marina ordered the one for the engine however it will arrive tomorrow.  Meanwhile, Steve worked for 3.5 hrs just to take off the head valve. What a job!  Being 6’4” tall doesn’t help the matter working in confine area and the sweat was just pouring off of him. Also, lots of cuts and scrapes. Blood, sweat and tears. The engine part is suppose to arrive tomorrow morning.  I went to pick up gator aid to build up Steve’s electrolyte along with bread and chicken. November 30 - December 3, 2021 Finally we will be spending time on the GaYa.  In the meantime, we had to say goodbye to our children, mother, siblings and friends. That is what makes it bitter sweet.   Lots of prep work was done the past few weeks. We have all our canned goods, condiments, clothing all packed along with boat parts and things needed to stay on the boat for at least 5months.  We had to make sure we are up to date on boat and travel insurance along with making sure all bills will be paid, security system updated, cars put away, empty the freezer and fridge, disconnect the washer, empty the dishwasher etc etc etc…. I was shocked to see what a good packer Steve was. November 21-27, 2021 Happy Thanksmas.  Our daughters came down with their family from the States. We figure since we will not see them for Christmas, we would celebrate Christmas and the American Thanksgiving.   We had so much fun.  We even played bowling on Thanksgiving Day.

Prep work  October 7 to 31, 2021 Can’t believe we will be starting our fifth year of sailing in the Bahamas. We are looking forward to it since we have been locked down for 18 months due to COVID.  We decided to leave earlier this year.  October 7, 2021  Up to now, Biden has not opened the US border due to Covid. We were hoping to drive our truck to Florida and Pennsylvania to see the kids and start working on the boat.  We decided to fly and therefore had to make sure we got our Covid test 72 hours prior. After less than 24 hours, we were happy to have a negative result. October 9, 2021  The limo picked us up at 4am in order to board our 7am flight to Fort Lauderdale. Nicky, our daughter, picked us up.  October 11-14, 2021 While we stayed at Nicky and Brent’s , we drove back and forth from Lakeworth to Fort Pierce daily to work on the boat.
