March 27, 2022- Hatchet Bay


Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera 
645am- Steve and I were on the deck of the boat watching dolphins feed. It is so nice when you hear the dolphins breathing through their blow hole on a quiet morning. 
Steve decided we will move on and therefore I let Sun Spirit know. The winds have been so unpredictable and we want to move when we can to get to the Abacos. 
7:45am- After coffee and breakfast, the anchor was raised and we say goodbye to Rock Sound heading towards Hatchet Bay. 
9:30am- Both sails are up, engine off and we are going at a speed of 6.6 knots. Steve even has 2 fishing poles out. 
10:00am-  We were under a dark cloud which brought winds and bigger waves with winds 22 knots. We took down head sail and now we are motor sailing. 
11:00am- We are still motor sailing with 15 knots of wind. Looks like we are going to Governor’s Harbour because of the way the wind is blowing. 
12:00pm-  We are almost at Governor’s Harbour however had to turn around. Sun Spirit is having problems taking down their sail. Not sure how we will help them since it is rough and not sure how we would get aboard. Stay tune. 
Steve is talking them through it from a distance. Their halyard came down a bit and it created slack in their sail and therefore could not bring it in. Gunter was a trouper and was out on deck trying to direct the sail back in the track while Sue winched it in. 
12:30pm-  Sue and Gunter managed to get it in. There is no protection right now in Governor’s Harbour so we will motor along the bank and head to Hatchet Bay where it is more protected. 
There is a mine field of crab pods all along Governor’s. You have to keep an eye on the white buoys since you do not want to go over one. 

From the hanging photo, you can tell when the boat has been bouncing around. 





3:45pm- We arrived at Hatchet Bay and safely anchored. 
Just heard Steve pop a well deserve beer. 
Dinner was left over cabbage roll casserole. It was so nice and peaceful. I worked on my weaving and Steve read until we watched a series and played solitaire before going to bed. Early rise tomorrow. Heading to Egg Island.

May 6, 2022 7:30am- After breakfast, we went back to the boat and made sure all the boat floor boards were lifted and we sprayed First Defence in case there are any bugs.  We locked her up and paid Sally the boat storage and lift out fee and left.  GaYa will be resting for another year.  We went to drop off our Certificate of Registry at US Customs as we always did however we no longe r have to do that. We have to wait until next December to get another cruising permit since the one we have expires December 6, 2023. It is not an easy lifestyle travelling on the boat but it brings you back to the simple life and it makes you appreciate the things you have at home such as running hot water, hot showers, dishwashers,  laundry machines and  all accessibilities  and conveniences of living on land.  We truly enjoy it and realize it is not for everyone. This blog was meant to share our daily life living on the boat for 5 months.  Thanks for reading my blog and we hope  we are able to do this

April 26, 2022 - Back to Fort Pierce, Fla

April 26, 2022 1:00am- I got woken up from a deep sleep when we heard two guys talking on the VHF radio about passing Mangrove. We left the VHF radio on all night in case we needed to communicate with Sun Spirit. Right now we have no cell connection whatsoever to communicate. 2:00am- Made coffee in preparation for our departure from Mangrove to Fort Pierce.  2:45am-Anchors up and off we go. For some reason, I always get excited when we leave in the dark. Wish I could take a photo of the sky. We can see the Milky Way. So beautiful. There is something special about leaving in the dark. Sun Spirit is right behind us.   You can see the lights illuminating the sky from Freeport.  3:45am-we put our radar on since we can see a bright light in the distance. One ship is going adjacent to us on our starboard and one is 5 miles ahead of us going to our starboard. Glad we have an AIS and radar.  So far I have seen 2 falling stars.  4:00am- As the approach the ship, we see on our AIS that the ships

December 13 - 24, 2021 FPCM

December 13, 2021 6:15- Went for my morning walk to see the sunrise.  Always so mystical.  When I returned around 7:30am, Steve was already busy addressing a few leaking issues. We like a dry bottom boat.  We had our first breakfast on the boat which consisted of yogurt, fruit and granola.   Steve washed and clean the boat topside, fixed a few electrical plugs to charge all our gadgets and checked to make sure the anchor works. All good.   We went to pick up a new bilge indicator and I couldn’t resist going to Bealls.  I love that shop however Steve was pressuring me to move along. He is on a mission.   Steve fired off the barbecue and all was good  Our first dinner on the boat consist of barbecued pork chops, basmati rice and broccoli.  Finished off with oreo cookies and a coffee.   So nice to relax after a hectic busy day.  7:00pm- We went for a nice long walk to look at all the Xmas lights and then came back to watch a movie.   December 14, 2021 6:00am - Woke up this to meet Debra a
